Make Your Own Umbrella

Learn how to create your very own custom umbrella and be a unique ray of sunshine on every dark rainy day.

In this class students will learn how to take regular quilting cotton, add special treatments to it to make it water proof, and turn it into their own unique umbrella that matches their personality and style.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: Skill Level: Intermediate Skill Details: Ages 15+ Must have a working knowledge of how to operate a sewing machine. Just getting started? Take our Intro to Sewing class
Materials Included: All materials needed for this class can be purchased for an additional $15. If you purchase Class + Materials, we will provide a variety of fabrics and threads to select from at the beginning of class.

If you opt to only pay for the class, these are the materials you will need to bring:

  • Pattern
  • umbrella frame
  • odi coat
  • 1 5/8 yd of quilting cotton-not laminated and with no stretch , (2 yds if using directional fabric, 3 yards to create a kaleidoscope).
Requirements: Additional items you will need but are offered at classroom stations include:

  • Sewing machine (you may bring your own or use the classroom sewing machines)
  • Pins (included at classroom station)
  • Fabric Marking tool (included at classroom station)
  • Sewing gauge (included at classroom station)
  • Ruler (included at classroom station)
  • Shears (included at classroom station)
  • Rotary Cutter (included at classroom station)
  • Cutting Mat (included at classroom station)
