Intro to Hand Embroidery

The art of hand embroidery since ancient times within every culture and continues to be one of the finest mediums for creative fabric art in sewing. Learn five basic embroidery stitches, tools, and techniques to get you started. 

In this class, you will learn five basic embroidery stitches, hooping techniques, common supplies, transfer and finishing methods, and how to start and manage projects from beginning to end.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Ages 15+

Must have a working knowledge of how to operate a sewing machine. Just getting started? Take our Intro to Sewing class.
Materials Included: All materials needed for this class can be purchased for an additional $20. If you purchase Class + Materials, you will be able to select the colors for your threads in class.

If you opt to only pay for the class, you will need to purchase the following pattern and bring to class:

  • 8 inch Embroidery Hoop
  • (1) pack of Hand Embroidery Needles
  • (6) Skeins of embroidery floss
  • (1) Water Soluble Marking pen
  • (1) Fat Quarter (quilting cotton or linen, light color)
Requirements: Additional items you will need but are offered at classroom stations include:

  • Sewing machine (you may bring your own or use the classroom sewing machines)
  • Pins
  • Fabric Marking tool
  • Measuring tape
  • Sewing gauge
  • Ruler (
  • Shears
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Cutting Mat
