BYOC (Build Your Own Cosplay) Part 2: Character Construction

It's time for construction!

Once you have planned your project, purchased and washed your fabrics, gathered all your tools, and learned the skills necessary, this class will guide you through the actual construction process.

In this class, you will learn how to work with various fabrics on a sewing machine and have the assistance of our Team. If you have already started construction but are having trouble with a specific part, we will focus on that area for your costume. We understand every Student in this class will come in at different skill levels. As such, some Students may need to repeat this class for continual guidance throughout construction.

BEFORE THIS CLASS:

  • Although not required, it helps if your pattern is already cut before attending this class.
  • All of your fabrics should be washed (and pressed, if applicable) before this class to eliminate shrinkage.
  • Always bring extra scraps of your fabrics so we are able to sample stitch methods that are best before sewing the actual costume.

If you own a sewing machine, we recommend you to bring it to class with you. If you do not own a sewing machine, we have a Baby Lock sewing machine available for use in the classroom.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • There is no planning in this class and you must come prepared with any specialty tools needed for construction. Planning and necessary tools and notions are covered in Part 1 of this 3 part series.
  • Each class instance is unique based on the challenges of every project brought in by students. As such, this class may need to be repeated to fully plan out a costume depending on complexity.
  • In many instances, other classes may be required to learn sewing skills needed to complete a project.
